Tomatoes are Tops for Health!

Tomatoes are such a great combination of Super Hero Health Food, good taste, and versatility!

Tomatoes

Packed full of carotenoids, tomatoes have:

  • alpha-carotene
  • beta-carotene
  • lutein
  • lycopene
  • phytoene
  • phytofluene

All of these are good for your health, but lycopene is really blue ribbon material. It’s reported to reduce rates of cancer, especially prostate cancer. Combined with the lutein, it also helps prevent macular degeneration.

Tomato Super Hero Sidekicks include watermelon and pink grapefruit. That may sound a little strange, but remember that technically, tomato is also a fruit!

Keep in mind that although uncooked tomatoes have higher over-all levels of carotenoids, lycopene in cooked tomatoes is more readily absorbed by the body. A good goal is to eat a daily serving of cooked tomatoes (1/2 cup) or a wedge of watermelon or half a pink grapefruit, and several servings of fresh tomatoes throughout the week.

It also happens to be a great time of the year to get garden fresh tomatoes, so don’t miss out on TOMATOES, a powerful Super Hero Health Food.

    I have to share my husband’s little ditty that he made up at dinner one night. Sing to “Row, row, row your Boat”.

    “Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream;
    Have yourself some Heinz Ketchup, it’s full of Lycopene”.

    Heinz has the word lycopene in bold letters all over the bottle. What’s too bad, is that folks that are eating ketchup, are often eating french fries. I make oven fries, but they still have olive oil on them.

    That’s too funny! Maybe your husband should do a commercial for them.
